The Rob Clearfield Mailing List 3.0

Hello friends,

Welcome to the first installment of my newsletter in 2019! It has been an eventful few weeks since my last letter. As some of you already know, my wife Bethany and I moved to Paris at the beginning of January, which has been both amazing and challenging, as major life changes tend to be. I’m very happy to give you the detailed version over coffee or apéro sometime!

This is the first picture I took after arriving in my new hometown.

In the meantime, some music-related news…

On February 10, 2019, I have the very exciting honor of making my orchestral debut as a composer. For much of 2018, I have been working on a commission from the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra (BVSO) to compose a set of pieces for string orchestra and jazz quartet. I’ve had the pleasure of performing with this orchestra three times before, twice in the context of collaborations with jazz musicians composing new works. I’m very grateful that the BVSO has invited me to compose on such a large scale for the first time! Joining me and the orchestra to perform this music are three extraordinary musicians and friends from New York: Caroline Davis, Sam Weber, and Allan Mednard. If you are in or near central Texas, I cordially invite you to come to this exciting concert in College Station, the jazz-meets-orchestral-new-music capital of Texas (for real)!.

Going forward, I am shifting my format to a monthly newsletter with more general career news, and maybe a little personal news thrown in too.

As always, there is more news about everything I’m involved in at my website
Thanks for reading,
